Cerro Nara Association

Today, 80% to 90% of the world's original primary rainforests have been destroyed, or drastically altered, including Costa Rica--see Vanishing World Rainforests.

At this moment, as you read this, the remainder of the world's rainforests are being ravaged and reduced. We need responsible people to join our plans and actions to halt this wanton cycle and to preserve what is left. The Cerro Nara Association has one such ideal, to purchase a threatened rainforest area and:

1.   Regenerate damaged, destroyed, or cleared areas with Analog Forestry.

2.   Form an owners association made up of conservationists who: Buy a property in the area with the option to build a small residence in a sustainable way. Share in raising cash crops to be exported to North America,   Europe, and Asia.

The association now has five owner/members. The association seeks to protect the land from poachers, loggers, and hunters, and to keep it as a natural, primary rainforest preserve, maintaining plant and animal biodiversity into perpetuity. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to enforce the protection of the land and consequently the area is being depleted by trespassers. Since the Costa Rican government gives us virtually no help, the things we need very badly are:

1.  A grant (which can be donated to a legal nonprofit already established).

2.  Volunteers to visit and help us with planting trees, nursery work, etc.  Free lodging will be available.
